“The project will significantly improve the functioning of the port of Ustka and adapt it to new functions related to wind energy. It has received support from the National Recovery Plan (KPO) and demonstrates how important wind energy is to us as well as the support for small and medium-sized seaports in this context. 

This is very important because Ustka is becoming a service port for offshore wind farms. The entrance to the port will be prepared in such a way as to support incoming vessels in a modern way”, said Arkadiusz Marchewka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, during a press conference in the port of Ustka.

The investment is being conducted as part of the project Construction of an offshore service terminal in Ustka. Funding for its implementation comes from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

“Comprehensive reconstruction of the breakwaters is necessary due to their age and technical condition and is also crucial for the safety of the port. The modernisation will reduce wave motion in the outer and inner port areas by relocating and extending the spur at the Western Breakwater as well as by adding extra rock armour from the breakwater head to the spur. This will significantly improve manoeuvring conditions and the safety of vessels entering and leaving the port. The renovation will also cover damaged infrastructure elements, such as the Low Quay, the Embankment Quay, the slipway and the Hel Spur. Consequently, the implementation of the two agreements signed today will significantly improve the conduct of offshore wind energy investments. I would like to thank the team at the Maritime Office in Gdynia for the tremendous amount of work put into this project and, given the very tight schedule, I would like to wish the Contractor very good weather”, emphasised Anna Stelmaszyk-Świerczyńska, Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia.

The first contract signed today covers the refurbishment of the Eastern Breakwater and Pilot Quay while the other concerns the refurbishment of the Western Breakwater with quays, slipway and spurs. The total value of both contracts is PLN 102.5 million.

The signing of the agreements was also attended by Ustka Mayor Jacek Maniszewski who stated that: “The renovation of the breakwaters marks a key moment in the development of the port of Ustka as it will not only ensure navigational safety, but also paves the way for the construction of an outer port in our town”. Meanwhile, President of the Ustka Seaport Authority Maciej Karaś emphasised the importance of one of the project’s main objectives which is the reduction of excessive and hazardous wave motion that occurs under certain wind conditions. He stated among other things that: “Once this phenomenon is eliminated, the operability of offshore bases and, above all, of the vessels servicing offshore wind farms will improve significantly”.  

Both contracts have been awarded to PORR S.A., which will have 15 months to complete them.
