PORR to build a bypass of Kętrzyn as part of provincial roads DW591 and DW592

Warsaw, 17.04.2025 - PORR S.A. has signed an agreement with the Olsztyn Provincial Roads Authority for the construction of a ring-road of Kętrzyn which will allow drivers to bypass the town from the west, north, and east. Within 38 months, the PLN 208 million project will see the construction of over 14 km of road, four bridges, an overpass over a railway line and five roundabouts.
Under the contract, PORR will build a road linking provincial roads DW591 (Kętrzyn-Mrągowo), DW594 (Bisztynek-Kętrzyn), DW592 (Bartoszyce-Kętrzyn), DW591 (state border-Kętrzyn) and DW592 (Kętrzyn-Giżycko).
Among other things, the project will encompass the construction of bridge structures, private and public exits, junctions, as well as pavements, cycle paths, shared pedestrian-cycle paths and bus bays. Road lighting will also be provided and the road corridor will be landscaped with greenery. Moreover, the project will include the reconstruction of railway crossings with line LK 38 Kętrzyn-Nowy Młyn (a road viaduct over the railway) and line LK 259 Karolewo-Czerniki (a level crossing).
The new transport link will relieve the town’s road network and significantly improve road safety and traffic flow in the northern part of Warmińsko-Mazurskie province. The investment will connect key routes towards Giżycko, Mrągowo, Bartoszyce, Bisztynek and further on towards the state border.
The work is expected to be completed in April 2028.
