The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of the Interdisciplinary Treatment and Diagnostic Centre at the Institute of Mother and Child.

On Mother’s Day, a foundation stone laying ceremony was held for the investment project entitled “Establishment of the Interdisciplinary Treatment and Diagnostic Centre of the Institute of Mother and Child”. This is the largest infrastructure project in the history of the Institute of Mother and Child and one of the most significant medical investments currently being implemented in Poland in the field of women’s and children’s health.

The event was attended, among others, by representatives of the Ministry of Health, local government authorities, the investment contractor, medical experts and members of the media.

„The choice of this exceptional date, Mother’s Day, gives today’s event a special significance and highlights the importance of this investment, the purpose of which is to advance modern medical care dedicated primarily to women, mothers and childred”, emphasised Dr Alicja Karney, Director of the Institute of Mother and Child.

A modern centre for treatment, diagnostics and research

The project involves the construction of a modern clinical and laboratory building connected to the Institute’s modernised clinical facility. The new Centre will integrate diagnostic, clinical, research and educational activities, enabling the provision of comprehensive patient care in a single location.

The new infrastructure will make it possible to significantly improve both the availability and quality of medical services, particularly in the following areas:

  • neonatology and neonatal intensive care,

  • high-risk obstetrics and gynaecology,

  • prenatal diagnostics,

  • paediatric surgery, particularly in the treatment of congenital abnormalities,

  • paediatric oncology,

  • newborn screening,

  • pathomorphology,

  • laboratory diagnostics,

  • day-case care

The core principle of the project is an interdisciplinary approach to patient treatment, enabling close collaboration between specialists from multiple fields of medicine. As a result, patients and their families will be able to benefit from comprehensive care provided within a single modern centre.

For many years, the Institute of Mother and Child has faced the challenge of insufficient space within its clinics and departments. The implementation of this investment will make it possible to overcome one of the Institute’s most significant barriers to development and to create conditions that meet the needs of modern medicine and the expectations of patients,” said Milena Kraszewska-Sulich, Deputy Director for Administration and Facilities Management at the Institute of Mother and Child.

An investment of nearly PLN 300 million

The total estimated value of the project is PLN 299,800,000, including PLN 281,182,420 in funding provided by the Ministry of Health’s Medical Fund. The remaining amount is financed from the Institute of Mother and Child’s own resources.

The investment is being carried out under a multiannual programme financed by the Medical Fund and forms a key part of the Institute’s development strategy.

The project’s general contractor is PORR S.A., selected through a public tender procedure conducted under the “design and build” model.

„Several months after signing the contract for the construction of the treatment and diagnostic centre at the Institute of Mother and Child, we are pleased to gather on site today as the commitments made more than a year ago are becoming a reality. The excavation works have already been completed, and we plan to reach ground level before the end of this summer. We are progressing in line with the schedule so that, by the end of 2027, we can hand over a facility that will combine the highest standards of diagnostics, treatment and medical care with modern infrastructure and comfort for both patients and staff,” said Piotr Kledzik, PORR S.A. President of the Board of Management.

Construction is already underway

Advanced construction works are currently being carried out on site. An excavation approximately 9 metres deep has already been completed, while the diaphragm walls extend more than 11 metres below ground level. Work on these elements commenced in December 2025.

Today’s foundation stone laying ceremony is being held within the construction site excavation itself, symbolically marking the commencement of the next phase of the project.

Further key structural works will be carried out over the coming months.

In total, approximately 7,000 m³ of concrete and around 670 tonnes of steel will be used for the structure. Completion of the investment programme is scheduled for the end of 2027.

„Today demonstrates that joint efforts, responsibility and concern for the health of future generations can deliver tangible and lasting results. I hope that by the end of 2027 we will be able to meet here again, this time for the official opening of the new building of the Institute of Mother and Child”, concluded the Institute’s Director.
