PORR to renovate railway line no. 8 on the Kraków Główny - Tunel section

PORR S.A. – as the leader of a consortium with Trakcja System Sp. z o.o. – and PKP PLK have signed a contract for the renovation of railway line LK8 Kraków Główny – Tunel. The PLN 105.2 million project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026. It will improve transport along a stretch of over 50 kilometres on the route connecting the capital of Małopolska region with Kielce and Warsaw. PORR S.A. will be responsible for the design and construction work.

The scope of works will include the reconstruction of railway tracks with upgraded parameters, enabling future train speeds of up to 120 km/h, as well as the modernisation of the contact line system. Six level crossings will be upgraded to improve travel safety.
As part of the project, we will also build a new platform at Miechów station and at the stop in Zastów while the platforms at the stop in Smroków and Kraków Batowice station will be renovated. Among other things, we will install modern shelters, benches, information boards and LED lighting.
The passenger railway infrastructure being built and modernised, including all platforms and their access routes, will be accessible to persons with reduced mobility.
According to the schedule, the work will take 12 months to complete.
