PORR to build a new dormitory and dining facility at WAT campus
/ Hochbau
The Military University of Technology (WAT) is investing in facilities to accommodate its growing number of officer cadets. The Rector-Commandant of the institution and the President of the Management Board of PORR S.A. have signed a contract for the construction of Military Dormitory No. 8, providing accommodation for 750 soldiers, and Military Dining Facility No. 4, which will have the capacity to serve more than 2,000 people. The new facilities will increase WAT’s capacity to accommodate and provide meals for military students and soldiers undergoing training at the University.
On 20 August 2026, Rector-Commandant of the Military University of Technology, Brigadier General Professor Przemysław Wachulak, and President of the Management Board of PORR S.A. Piotr Kledzik signed a contract for the implementation of the project. The agreement covers the project entitled “Construction of a Military Dormitory and Military Dining Facility Complex, including associated infrastructure (and a car park)”.
Military Dormitory No. 8 and Military Dining Facility No. 4 will be constructed by PORR S.A. in the south-eastern part of the WAT campus, on the side of Powstańców Śląskich Street and Dywizjonu 303 Street. The new dormitory will be built directly adjacent to Military Dormitory No. 7. Military Dining Facility No. 4 will be located closer to Dywizjonu 303 Street.
The dormitory will provide accommodation for 750 officer cadets. The building will be constructed together with the infrastructure required for its operation. The project will increase the University’s accommodation capacity for military students and soldiers attending specialist courses and training at WAT. It will also improve living and welfare conditions and enhance user safety, including fire protection.
The expansion of residential infrastructure is necessary in view of the growing number of military students. Existing dormitories are becoming increasingly heavily utilised, while raising admission limits for military degree programmes requires additional accommodation capacity. Improved conditions for studying, military service and everyday life are also important for prospective students who, after completing secondary school, are considering pursuing military studies.
New dining facility for soldiers
The second building to be constructed will be Military Dining Facility No. 4. At present, nearly 3,300 soldiers are served meals at the University’s existing canteens. The growing number of personnel requires an expansion of this capacity. The new two-storey building will have a usable floor area of 3,200 m². It will include a kitchen, food service areas, dining rooms, storage facilities, cold rooms, administrative offices and all the supporting facilities required for the preparation and serving of meals. The dining facility will be able to serve more than 2,000 diners three meals a day. The project will also include the necessary external infrastructure around the building, including a 1,000 m² vehicle manoeuvring area. The new dining facility will increase the University’s capacity to provide meals for officer cadets and soldiers staying at WAT. It will also ensure continuity and operational independence of food provision, regardless of external circumstances.
More capacity for training military personnel
The construction of the complex is driven by the needs of the Polish Armed Forces. Increased accommodation and dining capacity will enable WAT to train more soldiers and provide a greater number of courses and training programmes for professional military personnel. The investment marks another stage in the expansion of the campus and in preparing WAT’s infrastructure to meet the growing demand for the training of future officers of the Polish Armed Forces.
